<p>The muff connection for pipes, partic. those made from asbestos cement, has a cylindrical muff to accommodate a smooth pipe end and an elastic ring seal with radial pressure which is inserted in a groove inside th muff. There is a free intermediate space in the axial inner part of this groove. The seal assumes the shape of the axial outer part and the floor of the groove. It has an edge which is covered by an edge on the axial inner end of the floor of the groove and which causes the free upper surface of the seal to be convex. The two side walls(13, 14) of the groove widen axially, and form an angle with the floor(12) of the groove(10) which is somewhat larger than the friction angle of the seal(4) on the floor of the groove. The apices of the supplementary angle on the groove(10) and the corresponding angle on the seal(4) are formed as sharp edges.</p> |
