The system enables monitoring of residual voltage and current flow through successive alternations of current. The diagnostic system comprises a device for detecting (10) current inversion in the electric contact (12), with an analogue output (SA). This output supplies a voltage (Vs) proportional to the residual voltage of the contact (Vc), that is proportional to the current (Ich) flowing in the contact and in the electrical circuit (CE) when the contact is closed. A micro-controller (18) receives the voltage (Vs) at an analogue input (20), and a logic signal (SO) representative of the electric circuit zero crossing current at a logic input (22). The micro-controller is able to determine the maximum analogue voltage level (Vsm) at the terminals of the contact at each alternation, a the time a maximum current passes into the load (14).
