The brush comprises a body (1) connected to a cable (2). Thin plates (slices) (3a, 3b) of a carbon material, different from the basic material of the body (1), are fixed to the input and output faces. The carbon material is a layered structure, for example pyrolytic carbon, which may or may not be graphitised. The ratio of the resistivities along a direction perpendicular to the sheets and along a direction parallel to the sheets is greater than 10. The current density in the frictional zone close to the input and output edges of the brush is thus limited, which improves the switching power. The brush is used for electrical machines. <IMAGE>
