An electrical fuse is operated when a liquid or a gas exceeds a given pressure. The process is irreversible. The fuse wire is made from copper whose ends (2) from the terminals of the safety fuse. The wire passes diametrically through a hollow cylinder (3) made from an insulating material. The cylinder contains a piston also made from insulating material which exerts a pressure on the fuse wire. The pressure is derived from the gas or fluid and is applied under remote surface of the piston. The cylinder has a foil (8) which forms a gas-tight seal around the piston and the foil is distorted when the fuse wire is broken.
