Detector for measuring the O2 content in exhaust gases esp. from I.C. engines consists of a measurement cell with a catalytically active and an inactive electrode together with a solid electrolyte between. Both electrodes are formed as layers with a narrow spacing between than on a massive support rod. Between them is a surface region of solid electrolyte. The alternately mounted electrodes and solid electrolyte are all mounted on a rod shaped cell device. This has a carrier rod down its axis, which is of metal, a refractory ceramic, solid electrolyte. It is covered by a layer of insulation. The cell provides rapid warming to its operating temp.
