A valve for shutting off a pressurised medium is used esp. for the steam line of a nuclear power plant. The housing has a valve seating and two independently operated closure devices. One of these is a dish or plate, typically providing a regulated aperture, while the other is a tubular slide surrounding the plate. The tubular slide is equipped with an annular piston moving in an annular chamber in the valve casing; this piston can be regulated by a pressurised fluid, causing the tubular slide to open or close the valve. Used in a nuclear power plant, partic. as a tubular inlet and control valve. The layout of the valve is considerably simpler.
