The heel clamp on a safety ski binding also includes a hinged ski brake lever. In its normal position, the inner end of the brake lever is forced against the ski surface by the ski boot heel, thus making the brake not active. When the ski boot is removed from the building, the brake lever is released. A compressed coil spring in the clamp housing rotates the brake lever into its operating position by a crank arm on the common pivot shaft. The two ends of the brake lever thus protrude from the ski above and below it.
