<p>The oil level indicator for the sump of an automobile engine consists of a cylinder (B) which is connected to the sump (C) by a pump (T). The sump drain plug is replaced by a banjo type connector (K) which is connected to the end of the pipe. A cylindrical float (F) slides on a wire guide (G) inside the cylinder. A bolt, with an insulating sleeve passes through the plug (P1) of the cylinder. The bolt is connected to a warning lamp. When the oil level falls the metal undersurface (R) of the float (F) touches the tip of the bolt and connects it to earth so that the warning light is switched on.</p> |
