1511661 Spoons L S HOFFMAN and R B McCLOSKY 15 July 1975 [15 July 1974] 29628/75 Heading A4A [Also in Division B8] A packaged utensil unit comprises a flat utensil 12 having thereon a substance dissolvable in a fluid, a flat rigidifying member of the same thickness as the utensil and bonding the marginal edges thereof 14, and a flexible sheet 40 attached to the rigidifying member and covering the substance. The substance may comprise a sweetener in one or two spaced areas, spaced areas of a sweetener and a lemon flavouring instant food or beverages, drugs, medicines, or a fertilizer. The unit may be formed by cutting along a sinusoidal line 56 a cardboard, paper, plastics, or a laminated sheet into a utensil segment 60 and a rigidifying segment 62, coating the utensil segment with the substance, sealing a flexible sheet to both sides of the rigidifying segment 62, and severing the segments into separate units. Saccharin may be applied by dusting it on to the utensils coated with starch, or by mixing it with starch which is then printed on to the utensil. The utensil segment or a sheet 40 may be printed. The utensil may be secured to the packaging by either a spot bond (46) with a sheet 40 or by a tab connection (48) with the rigidifying member. |
