In this combined, exchangeable fresh gas delivery unit for anaesthesia apparatus, a central control unit (20) controls and monitors a) the supply of anaesthetic gases b) the metering and mixing of the anaesthetic gases c) the metering and admixture of the anaesthetic to the gas mixture and d) the introduction of the gas mixture enriched with anaesthetic into the patient's circulation. This makes it possible to achieve a considerably improved safety and accuracy in the operation of anaesthetic apparatus.
