<p>A battery or accumulator charging machine is designed to be hand cranked or pedalled by the operator. The orthodox rotating a. c. or d. c. generator (1) is driven via gearing (2) from either a hand operated lever (3, 4) or by bicycle pedals. The circuitry includes rectifiers in the case of an a.c. generator and switch gear (5) controlled by the demand of the battery (6) and the generator output level. In the case of the pedal driven form, on a fixed bicycle frame, the generator may be directly chain driven or may be driven from the rear wheel rim whose axle is free to move vertically such that the required drive pressure for the generator is maintained.</p> |
