Overwintering fungal pests (e.g. mildew, esp. Podosphaera leucotriche of apple trees) are combatted by applying to plants, bushes, shrubs or trees, which are ornamental or produce edible fruits or useful substances, a compsn. having surface-active properties (e.g. a condensate of an alkylphenol with 3-9 mol of ethylene oxide, the condensation prod. of a sorbitan fatty acid ester with 3-80 mol. of ethylene oxide, or sodium dioctylsulphosuccinate), application being during or approaching a resting phase. The treatment gives protection against overwintering fungal diseases without damaging the treated plants. |
