<p>A plate for a large size column, e.g. for distillation, rectifying or scrubbing, is formed by a number of segments, the long straight edges of which are folded upwards to form flanges, by which the segments are bolted together. The transverse edges of the segments are bolted to support beams which in turn rest on a flanged rail fixed to the inner wall of the column. Separate plates may be bolted to the flange joints, or the flanges themselves may be sufficiently high, to form flow baffles for the processing liq. Plates may be >=3m dia; and uneven flow due to welded seams is avoided.</p> |
