1487416 Sequestering agents for use in Au electro-plating HOOKER CHEMICALS & PLASTICS CORP 13 Dec 1974 [7 Jan 1974 (2)] 54043/74 Heading C7B [Also in Divisions C2 and D1] Phosphonomethyl compounds of the Formula: RNHCH 2 P (= O)(OH)R' wherein R is ZCO-, ZSO 2 -, or (R') 2 P(= O)CH 2 NHCO-, each R', which may be the same or different, is - OH, or unsubstituted or substituted alkoxy or aryloxy; and Z is - OH, or unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, aryl, alkoxy or aryloxy; (with the proviso that when R' is - OH and R is ZCO- then Z is - OH), are used for sequestering metal ions for example, for the electro-deposition of gold and gold alloys in sulphite baths. The metal ions which may be sequestered include those of Ca, Cr, Cu, Ni, Sn, Al, Co, Pt, Pd, Rh, Ir, Ru, Os, Zr, Hf, the rare earths such as Gd, Er, Nd, the actinides such as U, and Fe.
