<p>Pattern pieces are arranged on a backing plate with connectors connecting salient angles of adjacent pieces to form extensions of both sides of such angles providing crossing continuous lines for guiding a cutting tool in response to a sensing device cooperating with the pattern layout or a pattern plate photographically reproduced therefrom. Garment components, therefore, are completely severed from any adjoining fabric. Such sensing device includes a central pattern line sensor and four additional auxiliary sensors arranged symmetrically therearound. The four auxiliary sensors are connected in an electronic circuit for controlling the direction of travel of a cutting tool to replicate the continuous lines formed by the pattern pieces and their connectors, or to turn in the appropriate direction at an angular discontinuity of a pattern component margin.</p> |
