2-Hydroxy-3-methacryloyloxynaphthalene of formula (I) is new(I) is a monomer which forms dye reactive (co)polymers and may be used for fibres, films etc. (I) may also be coupled with dyes esp. salts and copolymerised. In an example methacryloyl chloride was reacted with 2,3-naphthalene diol to form (I) which was polymerised.
