<p>The system increases root strength of gears whose tooth flanks are hardened or heat-treated, the join between tooth flank and groove being radiused. The final shape of this radius (30) is obtained by machining the surface in a direction at right angles to the lengthwise direction of the teeth (28), typically by grinding and polishing. A rotary tool (26) can be used, its spindle sliding towards and from the radiused portion. Its position in relation to the latter is adjustable and lockable.</p> |
