In the process for treating acid tar by neutralisation and heat treatment, the neutralisation of the tar takes place in a mixing device (23) in which compounds of the alkaline earths having an alkaline reaction are added to the tar. The semisolid to solid reaction product being formed is subjected in a first stage to a carbonisation treatment at 350 to 500 DEG C in a carbonisation device (25). In a second stage, the resulting gaseous carbonisation products are burned in a chamber (20). In this way, a treatment of acid tar without pollution of the environment is achieved, wherein the carbonisation residues arising in the carbonisation device (25) are discharged in a solid form.

|
