1355763 Welding by fusion ALLEGHENY LUDLUM INDUSTRIES Inc 26 April 1972 [27 April 1971] 19333/72 Heading B3R [Also in Division C7] A method of producing a weld between two metallic members, especially stainless steels, involves gas-shielded arc welding using, as the weld metal, an austenitic steel having the composition 7À5 to 16% manganese 17À5 to 26% chromium 5 to 7% nickel 0À75 to 4% molybdenum 0À18 to 0À38% nitrogen up to 0À1% carbon up to 1À0% silicon the balance being iron. The shielding atmosphere may be argon, helium, nitrogen or a mixture thereof. The weld metal may serve as an electrode; alternatively, a non-consumable electrode may be used, e.g. of tungsten. |
