A membrane filter has a pressure vessel and an inlet for feed and outlets for concentrate and permeate. The membrane supports are connected to the permeate outlet. The supports in combination form a spiral surface. Filter can be used for membrane filtration. The membrane area in a given sized vessel is large and the spiral form reduces the rate at which the membrane fouls.
