DAMPER FOR A COMPOSITE PRINT WHEEL

1490633 Selective printing XEROX CORP 21 Jan 1975 [25 Sept 1974] 2645/75 Heading B6F A print wheel has beams 4 each carrying a type slug 2. A damper 6 is applied to the beams. The damper may be one or two layers 60, 61 of a coated nylon fabric joined to each other and the beams by an adhesive. The beams 4 may be integrally formed with a circular insert member which connects the radially inner ends of the beams 4. The insert may be of stainless steel. The cap 10 may be of styrenebutadiene copolymer and the hub 8 and flag 9 of thermoplastic such as phenol-formaldehyde resin. The flag 9 is shaped to provide a clear view of the print position. The slugs 2 may be of fibreglass reinforced phenolformaldehyde moulded about the ends of the beams 4. The beams 4 do not lie along the whole length of a slug 2 but only into the lower part thereof, as shown in Fig. 5, to prevent the stresses created in the slug during impression from being transmitted to the beam. The character formed on the slug may be covered with a metallic coating of low peel strength. The beams 4 are of constant cross section except at their tips, see Fig. 5.
