Ceramically-bonded building material is made using a layer of granulate which can be sintered and expanded by hot gases fed through the layer. The novelty is that pulsating hot gases are employed. The granulates pref. have size 3-15 (6-12) mm, the layer being 15-25 (18-22) cm thick. The pulsation is pref. employed above a temp. which is 200 degrees C below the sintering or expanding temp., using a pressure difference of 100-400 water-column and a frequency of 10-20 Hertz. The pref. plant uses a reactor supplied with hot gases from a combustion chamber fitted with a compressor. Provides uniform heating, sintering and expansion of the granulate in a very rapid process which produces isotropic properties in the finished block.
|
