The friction lock is used to hold a removable handle in position if left on the end of a shaft. The handles carries a square spigot (1a) which is inserted in a square hole (1b) in the end of the shaft (3). The friction lock is formed by drilling the spigot transversely and inserting a cylindrical plug of rubber (6) which projects (6a, 6b) a small distance on either side of the spigot and is retained in position by a pin. Additional grooves of triangular form (14) are cut in the shaft in the centre of the square faces and are of such a depth that when the handle is inserted they compress the rubber projections and increase frictional insertion and withdrawal forces.
|
