1464805 Vehicle sliding roofs W BAIER W BAIER L SCHOBER and E SCHLUMPRECHT 17 Sept 1975 [3 Oct 1974] 38214/75 Heading B7B In a vehicle roof operating mechanism for sliding the roof 1, rotation of a crank arm 11 is transmitted via gear wheels 16, 17 to the pinion shaft 8 of the operating mechanism, while for raising the rear end of the roof out of the roof opening the crank arm 11 and pinion shaft 8 are connected through a further gearing stage 18, 19 providing a gearing reduction, thus allowing the arm 11 to be pivoted into a recess 23 in a plurality of tilted positions of the roof 1. As shown in Fig. 2, pivoting of crank arm 11 upwardly about boss 13 engages a lip 22 to lower shaft 14 against spring 20 to disengage gears 16, 17 of ratio 1 : 1 and then engage gears 18, 19 of ratio 4:1 . A stop mechanism for the crank arm in the open, closed, and tilted positions of the roof 1 is provided by a stop 29 depending from a plate 30 mounted for rotation about crank shaft 14 but prevented from axial movement relative thereto. The stop engages end 32, Fig. 3, of groove 28 in a ratchet wheel 25 when roof 1 is in the fully open position slid under the fixed part of the roof, and the stop engages end 37 in the closed position. When crank arm 11 is tilted to position 11a stop 29 is raised into a shallow groove 35 whose end 33 determines the upper limit of the raised position of the roof 1. A detent system 51, 50 holds the crank arm in its three positions 11, 11a, 11b. The pinion 7 of the operating mechanism operates the roof via a cable 2 which is rigid in lengthwise compression so that it can be used to both push and pull. |
