Rotor disc used at the ends of a centrifuge bowl - to transfer the drive and support a magnetic top bearing

A rotor disc has a circular perimeter. It rotates about an axis at right angles to and through the centre of the perimeter. Its cross section section is asymmetric about a plane through the perimeter or its centre. Near the centre it is bounded by a cylinder. One flank of the disc is convex and the other concave. Used in coupling the drive of a centrifuge to the bowl or as a support for a magnetic disc forming part of a magnetic top bearing for a centrifuge. During rotation the disc deforms and there is no concentr. of stress at particular points. The amount of material needed for a particular duty is less than with conventional designs and the disc can be correspondingly lighter. The disc is designed for stress on its outer perimeter and an the central cylinder.
