1275610 Polymers containing phosphorus and nitrogen SANDOZ Ltd 14 Oct 1969 [16 Oct 1968 23 May 1969] 50428/69 Heading C3R [Also in Division D1] Polymers containing phosphorus and nitrogen are obtained by reacting 1 mole of a phosphonitrilic halide of formula where R is an organic radical; Hal is chlorine, bromine or fluorine; m is an integer from 3 to 12; n is a number from 0 to m; 2m - n is at least 4; Hal and R are bound to phosphorus atoms and at least 2 halogen atoms are bound to the same phosphorus atom, with m/4 to m/2 moles of a compound of formula where X is -O- or -NH-; R1 is one of the radicals Y1 is a direct linkage, -O-, -S-, -SO 2 -, -CH 2 - or -C(CH 3 ) 2 -; Y2 is a hydrogen atom or the two Y2's jointly may be -S- when Y1 is -S-; or with (2m - n)/8 to (2m - n)/2 moles of an oxalkylated amine of formula where R2 is hydrogen or alkyl; Z is a hydrocarbon radical or a radical of formula Y3 is or alkylene; v is a direct linkage, -O-, -S-, -SO-, -SO 2 -, or a hydrocarbon bridge; and a, b, c and d are integers from 1 to 10. The reaction products may be reacted with ammonia or a primary or secondary amine. In examples phosphonitrilic chlorides are reacted with pentaerythritol, tetrakis-(hydroxymethyl)- phosphonium chloride, 3,31,4,41-tetrahydroxy- 1,11 - diphenyl, 4,41 - diamino - 3,31 - dihydroxy- 1,11 - diphenyl, 1,2 - bis - [di - (21 - hydroxyethyl)-amino]-ethane, an adduct of ethylene oxide and 1,2-bis-[di-(21-hydroxyethyl)-amino]- ethane, triethanolamine, 1,2 - bis - [di - (21- hydroxypropyl) - amino] - ethane, 1,3 - bis - [di- (21 - hydroxyethyl) - amino] - propane, N,N- bis - (21 - hydroxypropyl) - N - 211 - hydroxyethylamine, N - ethyl - N,N - di - (21 - hydroxyethyl)-amine and N-phenyl-N,N-di-(21-hydroxyethyl)-amine; some of the products are reacted with ammonia. Uses.-Flame-proofing agents for textiles, plastics and synthetic resins.
