Carrier material particles are fluidised in the medium at the same time as an oxidizing agent and a divalent iron and/or manganese ions are added. - A method for removing selenium and/or cobalt from an aqueous medium comprises bringing the medium into contact with a particulate carrier material in such a way that this material becomes fluidised in the medium, whilst at the same time adding divalent iron and/or manganese ions, along with an oxidizing agent, in a molar ratio sufficient to form an adsorptive surface of iron oxyhydroxide (FeOOH) and/or manganese dioxide.
