PURPOSE:To cause an electric potential distribution gradient that is developed along a transfer direction to be tilted in one direction and to improve the transfer efficiency and transfer speed by forming a read-channel in front of a transfer direction under a transfer electrode of a CCD. CONSTITUTION:A read-channel 14 is formed in front of a transfer direction under CCD electrodes 12 and 13. In other words, the center point 33 of the read-channel 14 is formed so that its position is biased in front of the transfer direction against center points 30 of sensitive elements 1. Forms of the CCD electrodes 12 and 13 make their front parts broader in accordance with a position of the read-channel 14. Accordingly, a potential distribution 19 holding a relatively high potential is formed at a front side of the transfer direction and the potential distribution at a section shown by a cutting line Y3-Y4 that is running long the transfer direction is tilted so that it comes to have a higher potential as it goes from the rear to the forward of the transfer direction. As a result, its charge (electrons) 22 is smoothly transferred and its transfer speed is accelerated. |
