The function testing device uses a photosensitive semiconductor element (3) with a sensitivity range matched to the emission spectrum of the tested light-emitting diode (2), associated with a device, e.g. an evaluation logic (5), for evaluating the photocurrent for activating a warning display. The light-emitting diode is activated at discrete intervals for function testing.
