As a graduated glass disc P 2 (Fig. 1) is moved relative to a graduated glass disc P 1 , phase displaced signals are obtained from two sets Q 1 , Q 2 of diametrically opposed photo-cells from which signals binary coded signals M 0 -M 9 and N 0 -N 9 are derived, the binary coded signals being further processed to derive monophilic binary signals GHJKL which are applied to a counter device Z (including frequency dividers) connected via a decoder U to a display device V. The embodiment of Fig. 3 (not shown), includes additionally a locking stage (X) controlled from a time switch (Y 1 ) to which a locking signal (b) for storing temporarily the states of the binary signals G, H, J, K, L is applied. |
