The invention relates to a method for starting up programs at variable time intervals in central control devices of telephone switching systems. According to the invention, the required time intervals are recorded in timer memories, along with a corresponding job code, in the form of a counting value which represents a multiple of a pre-defined time unit. The counting value is decremented by 1 for each time unit and, when a counting value of 0 is reached, the recorded job code is transmitted for further processing. <IMAGE>
