Solenoids 78, 80 are operable to reduce or increase the air-flow through auxiliary air bleeds 66, 76 to the main fuel well 58 and the idle fuel passage 62 in response to control signals from unit 84. The sensor 86 may be responsive to oxygen, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide or to hydrocarbons. The sparking plugs 22 are located diametrically opposite with respect to the combustion chamber and the exhaust valve ports of each cylinder pair lead to a siamesed exhaust passage 36. A catalytic converter, or afterburner may follow the exhaust sensor to treat the exhaust gases.</p>
