PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a thermal recording body which is particularly excellent in recording sensitivity and recording image quality by sequentially layering an undercoat layer which contains a heat sensitive gelatinizer having a specified gelatinizing temperature and a thermal recording layer which contains a leuco dye and a coloring agent on a support body. SOLUTION: An undercoat layer and a thermal recording layer having a leuco dye and a coloring agent are sequentially layered on a support body so as to form a thermal recording body. A heat sensitive gelatinizer is added in the undercoat layer whose apparent specific gravity is set to 0.1-0.5. The undercoat layer contains the heat sensitive gelatinizer and is formed by coating the support body with a coating liquid for the undercoat layer which is expanded mechanically, and drying it. The heat sensitive gelatinizer to be used for the undercoat layer is formed of a compound which has a gelatinizing temperature of 30-100 deg.C, preferably 40-70 deg.C, and has an effect for thickening a water- dispersible or water-soluble coating liquid for the undercoat layer or for gelatinizing it at a temperature higher than the gelatinizing temperature. |
