The dead air space cleaning apparatus comprises a tube (8) which is inserted into the airway of the patient, with the other end connected to a pressurized source. The source is a reservoir (10) which stores breathed air during the inspiration phase and forces cleaning gas under pressure into the end of the tube during the expiration phase. The reservoir has an outlet (9) which stands in pressurized connection with the end of the tubes and the reservoir.
