PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new enzyme consisting of a polypeptide having a specific amino acid sequence, having a dehydrogenase activity to alcohol and aldehyde and useful for the production of an aldehyde, a carboxylic acid and a ketone, and especially 2-keto-L-gulonic acid. SOLUTION: This new alcohol/aldehyde dehydrogenase is a new recombinant enzyme preparation having an alcohol and/or aldehyde dehydrogenase activity and containing one or more enzyme polypeptides selected from the group consisting of polypeptides identified by formula I to IV, chimeric recombinant enzymes among the polypeptides identified by the formula I to IV, and functional derivatives of the polypeptides identified as above and containing an addition, an insertion, a lack and/or a substitution of one or more amino acid residues and having the alcohol and/or aldehyde dehydrogenase activity, and useful for the production of an aldehyde, a carboxylic acid and a ketone, and especially 2-keto-L-gulonic acid as an important intermediate compound for L-ascorbic acid (vitamin C). |
