A laminate comprises a synthetic resin foam layer and a layer comprising a composition board formed from wood pulp and a thermoplastic synthetic resin. Preferably the foam layer is sandwiched between two composition boards, each of which is faced with a paper liner on the surface next to the foam. The foam and the thermoplastic binding resin may comprise a vinyl resin, a poly-α-olefine, a polyurethane, a polyamide, a polyester, a polycarbonate, a polyacetal, a polyethylene oxide, a polystyrene, an acrylic resin, neoprene, an aldehyde selfcondensate, a phenolic resin, a silicone, an unsaturated polyester or a cellulose acetate, many suitable compounds being specified. The wood pulp may be α-cellulose, groundwood, hardwood or softwood pulp and the paper liner may be bleached kraft pine or hardwood paper. The foam layer may be formed in situ or preformed, heat being applied to effect bonding. The laminates may be used for forming cartons. |
