A grinding roll for a roll pan mill comprises a hub (2) and a roll element with a roll casing (1) consisting of a material of great hardness. The roll element is pushed by its inward surface onto a cylindrical seating surface (7) of the hub (2) and secured against rotation and axial displacement. Two rings (12) consisting of a material of lesser hardness are mounted at the inward surface of the roll casing (1) by way of an undercut portion. Casing (1) may be made from an iron material containing nickel and chrome, and rings (12) from cast iron with ball graphite. <IMAGE>
