An ultraviolet metal halide lamp for a photochemical reaction is characterized by insert-sealing mercury, discharging rare gas, and halogen metal or pure metal into the quartz discharge tube. The pure metal is pref. 7.5x10-8 - 8.1x10-5g atom/cc of lead. The lamp includes a discharge tube, tungsten electrodes connected in the both sides of (1), and a molybdenum thin plate (3) connected in the external introducing wire (4).
