PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately switch the wavelength change rate of a semiconductor laser according to whether the main purpose is to measure distance or speed. SOLUTION: A distance/vibration meter comprises: a laser driver 4 alternately repeating a first oscillation interval in which the oscillation wave length is continuously increased and a second oscillation interval in which the oscillation wavelength is continuously decreased in the semiconductor laser 1; a photodiode 2; counting means 5-7 for counting the number of interference waveforms between the optical output of the semiconductor laser 1 and the return light from a measurement object 12 included in the output of the photodiode 2 for each of the first oscillation interval and for the second oscillation interval; an arithmetic unit 8 for calculating the distance to the measurement object 12 and the speed of the measurement object 12 from the minimum oscillation wavelength and the maximum oscillation wave length of the semiconductor laser 1 and the count results; and a mode setting device 10 for switching the wavelength change rate of the semiconductor laser 1 between a distance measurement priority mode and a speed measurement priority mode.
