The multipurpose grinding and polishing machine comprises, possibly interchangeable (via carriers 2,2'), sets of grinding and polishing units (A,B) which are arranged on indexable turrets (3,3') at both sides of the main housing (1) whereby the units of each set are different and each set has its own independently switchable (10 etc) drive (7-9, 5; 7'-9', 5') motor (6,6'). The machine may comprise a third set of units (C) arranged between the sets (A,B) and of which at least one is a band grinding unit (13,13') and/or a grinding and/or lapping unit drivable (5,5') via the first set(s). USE/ADVANTAGE - Multipurpose grinding and polishing machine. The arrangement considerably extends the range of operations that can be carried out without the need for equipment change-over. The machine is simpler and less expensive as the number of guides required to permit changes is minimised or reduced to zero.
