摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal element of which both orientation uniformity and driving characteristics are compatibly improved. SOLUTION: Liquid crystal 11 is held between a pair of substrates 12a, 12b and an orientation controlling layer 15a having an uniaxial orientation regulating force to the liquid crystal 11 is selectively provided on at least one substrate. When temp. drops, in the liquid crystal 11 transition generates to the liquid crystal phase from a region being in contact with a plane R1 parallel to the substrate of the orientation controlling layer 15a in a phase transition process of liquid phase-liquid crystal phase and, then, a liquid crystal phase transition region is continuously enlarged along an axial direction of the uniaxial orientation regulating force of the orientation controlling layer 15a to form an orientation state.
