PURPOSE:To obtain gradated image prints in high resolution by a method wherein a plurality of pixel arrays intersecting at a right angle the direction in which a photosensitive body moves are provided, a ferroelectric liquid crystal element having fixed ratio of light transmission quantity to each of the pixels is provided, and optical write-in is made on an identical point on the photosensitive body with the pixels in each of the pixel arrays by selecting transmission or nontransmission of light in accordance with print data in gradation data. CONSTITUTION:For four pixels placed between four scanning-side transparent electrodes 14 and one signal-side transparent electrode 16, selection is made with a timing waveform of waveforms 31 for driving the scanning-side transparent electrode for transmission or nontransmission, with time lags provided respectively, in waveforms 32 in combination of five phase signals for selecting transmission and nontransmission for driving the signal-side transparent electrode, and the pixels are kept in the state of being selected until the next timing waveform is produced. The time for which each of the pixels is kept in the state of being selected is equivalent to four periods of transmission/nontransmission selecting signal. The light transmitted through each of the pixels, identical to the time for completion of image printing in one dot on photosensitive paper with a ferroelectric liquid crystal shutter head 11, is emitted with modulation applied by filters 13 in fixed ratio of light transmission quantity provided on the four scanning-side transparent electrodes 14. |
