A process for removing printing ink from waste paper by disintegration of the waste paper mass, to which de-inking chemicals are added, followed if necessary by further processing steps that help to remove the printing ink, and by the discharge of the printing ink by an appropriate process, is characterized by the admixture during the process to the watered waste paper mass to be processed of (a) one or several bleaching agents and (b) 0.1 to 5 wt % polyvinyl alcohol or a copolymer of polyvinyl alcohol, with respect to the mass of waste paper.
