THICKNESS LONGITUDINAL PIEZOELECTRIC RESONATOR

A thickness longitudinal piezoelectric resonator exhibiting excellent frequency-temperature characteristics in which a variation in frequency characteristics is suppressed over a wide temperature range. In an energy confinement thickness longitudinal piezoelectric resonator (1) utilizing thickness longitudinal oscillation mode and comprising first and second resonance electrodes (3, 4) formed partially on the upper and lower surfaces of a piezoelectric substrate (2) polarized in the thickness direction, with the opposing portion of the first and second resonance electrodes (3, 4) serving as an energy confinement oscillating section, a suppression response having a frequency-temperature variation trend for suppressing frequency variation due to temperature of a main response is set in close proximity to the main response so that frequency variation due to temperature of the main response is suppressed, in order to suppress frequency variation due to the temperature in thickness longitudinal oscillation mode, i.e. the main response for utilizing resonance characteristics.
