PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal composition containing a polymerizable compound, which has an adequate pretilt angle and a minimal amount of residual monomers, and which is used for manufacturing a PSA type or PSVA type liquid crystal display element having excellent response performance and having no problems or extremely few problems such as alignment failure or display failure caused by a low voltage holding rate (VHR) or the like, and a liquid crystal display element using the above composition.SOLUTION: The liquid crystal composition containing a polymerizable compound comprises: as a first component, at least one type of polymerizable compound represented by general formula (I-1); and as a second component, at least one type of liquid crystal compound having an alkenyl side chain group.
