A coating that has a long service life and is suitably used as a wear-resistant coating for a gas turbine engine component, a gas turbine engine component comprising the coating, and a method for coating a substrate using the coating are provided. A coating consists essentially of: about 30 to about 80% of a hard carbide material; and about 20 to about 70% of a lubricating material mixed with the hard carbide material. A gas turbine engine sealing mechanism(10) includes an annular carbon seal ring(12), which is supported by a seal carrier(14), and an annular seal plate(16), which is supported by a rotary shaft(18). The sealing mechanism is an example of a seal part that may be used in a bearing compartment of a gas turbine engine to limit leakage of fluid such as lubricating oil from a compartment(20) into other parts of the gas turbine engine. The seal carrier biases a face(12A) of the carbon seal ring relative to a face(16A) of the seal plate. The gas turbine engine sealing mechanism additionally includes a coating(17), which consists of a lubricating material and a hard carbide material, is applied to at least a portion of the face of the seal plate that comes in contact with the face of carbon seal part.
