The mattress is assembled of three layers in order to help prevent bedsores and to minimize the effects of incontinence. The shallow lower layer is of the highest density and permanently glued to the thicker and slightly softer central layer. The upper layer is particularly soft and additionally provided with transversal grooves integrated in its upper surface. Each of the grooves has a circular cross section with a narrow slot open at the top.
