TECHNIQUE FOR MODIFYING FATTY ACID COMPOSITION VIA SUPPRESSION OF GENE EXPRESSION CAUSED BY NONSENSE MUTATION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for more simply and efficiently reducing the α-linolenic acid content in a plant cell.

SOLUTION: The method for reducing the α-linolenic acid content in the plant cell comprises expressing a mutant ω-3 fatty acid desaturase gene in which nonsense mutation is transferred to the ω-3 fatty acid desaturating enzyme gene in the plant cell. Furthermore, a plant in which the mutant ω-3 fatty acid desaturating enzyme gene comprising the nonsense mutation introduced to the ω-3 fatty acid desaturase gene is inserted and the mutant ω-3 fatty acid desaturase gene is expressed is provided.
