PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which is capable of instantaneously detecting abnormality of a non-contact temperature sensor and of correcting dirt of a lens portion or restoring functions when the lens portion is stained. SOLUTION: A thermopile 40 and a thermistor 21 capable of measuring a plurality of areas 25 and 26 are used together, and neighbors of a temperature measurement area 25 of the thermistor 21 are measured by the thermopile 40 also, and measurement results of the thermopile 40 are corrected in accordance with a difference between outputs of the thermopile 40 and the thermistor 21, and the thermopile 40 or the thermistor 21 is determined to be abnormal when the difference between outputs of the thermopile 40 and the thermistor 21 exceeds a prescribed value, and functions are restored when the abnormality of the thermopile 40 is detected.
