PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device which is capable of relaxing the tension of a fixing belt, while suppressing the change of a nip state and to provide an image forming apparatus.SOLUTION: The fixing device and the fixing part of an image forming apparatus include a belt assembly including an endless fixing belt and a pressure member. Further, the belt assembly includes a support member, a fixed member which is applied to the region facing the pressure member across the fixing belt of the inner surface of the fixing belt, on which the inner surface of the fixing belt slides by the circulation movement of the fixing belt and which is fixed to the support member, one or more support rolls which are freely rotatable with respect to the support member, which support the fixing belt in such a state that the tension is applied to the fixing belt in cooperation with the fixed member, and a tension relaxing mechanism relaxing the tension of the fixing belt by operating one or more support rolls out of the one or more support rolls, when the fixing device is not used. |
